Today, Dave took the boys including our new friend/son Jorge, fishing. While Reid has gone fishing before, he didn't really remember going. And Tyce and Jorge had never before gone. They had an early wake up at 5ish and Pepe (the captain) arrived to pick them up promptly at 6am.
Tyce was all amped to hit the waters. This excitement continued until after a 3 mile boat ride, when the anchor was set, and Dave noticed all three boys were odd shades of green. (Next time there will be some dramamine administered before the trip for sure!)
Dave chose to go bottom fishing so that everyone would get a chance to catch fish. Apparently, there's a wrecked shrimp boat that serves as the fish shelter providing the fishermen with ample opportunity to catch fish.
It is amazing how quickly sea sickness goes away when you start catching fish. Tyce was the first to catch 4 including the biggest fish of the day. But was followed quickly by the rest of the guys. Jorge caught a catfish and several others while Reid caught pompano and red snapper. After catching 17 fish (Pompano, red snapper, black snapper and the catfish), the captain received a call from some deep sea fisherman that there was a storm quickly approaching. The captain pointed the storm out to the guys who all quickly and happily agreed it was time to head in. As Dave noted, if the storm hadn't been headed their way, a storm of sea sickness surely would have been as all the young men were struggling a bit... especially Tyce.
Just as the guys finished up taking pictures at the dock, there was a flash flood shutting down the entire city of Mazatlan. A taxi arrived for the boys who made their way around town to get home (normally a 20 minute drive that took about an hour). (Kaari & Jessica were at school and found the streets flooded by the time class was done. They waited it out a bit and were fortunate enough to be able to get a ride home from Karla (Kaari's teacher)).
