Our Latest Updates, a Bit of Tummy Trouble & Internet Woes

7.11.16
New York Burgers shares a wall with our building.  Thankfully, they are really yummy
so anytime we are craving a burger it's just a 10 step walk from our building.  :)

Generally speaking all is well and wonderful for us here in Mazatlan.  The weather continues to get a little more humid but it's beautiful and with access to sunscreen, water, and ultimately air conditioning, there's little to complain about.  We are definitely really missing Dave and would love to have our furry family member, Halia, here too.  And maybe two other things would be... internet and traveler's tummy.

The internet here can be very shotty.  Maybe the infrastructure isn't what our is but additionally, all the walls are concrete and the signal just doesn't do well getting through those walls.  It takes quite a bit of time and a little (or sometimes A LOT) extra patience to get anything done.  Last Tuesday, there was a small storm.  This isn't uncommon.  We get lightning storms in the evenings and occassionally a downpour for an hour or two during the day.  Anyway, this time, it knocked out our internet for several days.  Thankfully, our great landlord had it fixed as soon as we let him know about the issue.  Not having any at all, certainly made us more accepting of the spotty version we have again.  :)

As for traveler's tummy, occasionally, one of the kids will complain of an upset tummy.  Thankfully so far, it's just been a small case of traveler's tummy that they quickly get over.  Unfortunately Wednesday I was struck down with a nasty little bug of some sort.  Fever, head ache and stomach ache kept me out of commission, and out of school Thursday and Friday. It did give Reid, Kaari and Tyce a great chance to spread their wings a little here and make their own way to and from school. They were troopers and would stop at a little store nearby to buy me mineral water or electrolyte drinks.  Kaari took over in the kitchen preparing soup for me and making spagetti for everyone else. Reid helped with dishes.  While I still felt somewhat crummy on Saturday, I was getting stir crazy and I really didn't want the kids to have to spend a day sitting around.  So with the help of Ibuprofen and the ever handy Pepto, we made our way to the pool with the plan of heading to Reid's baseball game in the afternoon.

Reid had a great game - getting the winning run for the team.  (This was the team's first win since we've been here so it was a fun change for all!)
Most of Reid's Liga Mazatlan team plus the coach & his grandson.  (Our friend Edgar
unfortunately had to work for this game and is not pictured).

Anyway, that's our update for now.  Warm hugs from all of us!
On the plaza with the catedral is this yummy icecream shop and since the owner is from Michoacan,
(the state of Morelia), we just had to have a taste or two.

Kaari and a peeking Tyce in the plaza in front of the downtown Cathedral.
One of the colorful businesses in downtown, historic Mazatlan

Plaza Machado in historic downtown.  LOVE plaza Machado and the surrounding area!

Another view in Plaza Machado.  I had to get the shot with the Mazatlan created pulmonia.
The pulmonia (named after pneumonia for it's open air style) was first used here in Mazatlan as
a form of taxi.  I don't remember these used in any other Mexican beach town.  Any one else?
